Can&#8217;t be any worse than the non-Rocksteady instalment <em>Arkham: Origins<\/em>, right? Moving on!<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption\" style=\"width: 650px;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/txVkG7kOAYw?rel=0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>I have put this here to illustrate the section, but I haven&#8217;t actually watched it because SPOILERS!<\/div>\n<h2>Hitman<\/h2>\n<p><em>Hitman: Absolution<\/em> wasn&#8217;t a trainwreck, but it wasn&#8217;t a &#8220;proper&#8221; <em>Hitman<\/em> game either. <a title=\"Game Guides for Non-Gamers: Hitman\" href=\"http:\/\/www.payneful.co.uk\/blogsplosion\/2014\/02\/08\/game-guides-for-non-gamers-hitman\/\">Hitman games should be all about the free-form assassinations<\/a>, but the last instalment was a linear story with stealth game elements, with only a few sandbox areas to let players loose in (like any gamer who doesn&#8217;t like change, <a title=\"Why Hitman: Absolution Isn\u2019t Quite Right\" href=\"http:\/\/www.payneful.co.uk\/blogsplosion\/2013\/01\/02\/why-hitman-absolution-isnt-quite-right\/\">I bitched about it at length in a blog post<\/a>)<sup class='footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.payneful.co.uk\/blogsplosion\/2015\/06\/20\/random-guesswork-e3-2015\/#fn-2739-2' id='fnref-2739-2' onclick='return fdfootnote_show(2739)'>2<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"It was a good sign.\" href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20141101204431\/http:\/\/hitman.com\/open-letter-to-hitman-fans\/\" target=\"_blank\">The developers at IO Interactive wrote an open letter to the fans saying that the new game would be &#8220;back to basics&#8221;<\/a>, and if anything it looks like it has gone the other way: that there won&#8217;t be any story at all, just a series of contracts killings to fulfil. I like the stories that tie all the assassinations together in the games but I admit they are peripheral at best<sup class='footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.payneful.co.uk\/blogsplosion\/2015\/06\/20\/random-guesswork-e3-2015\/#fn-2739-3' id='fnref-2739-3' onclick='return fdfootnote_show(2739)'>3<\/a><\/sup>. The developers have picked up on the fact that Contracts mode in Absolution, where you can create hits and be more creative with dispatching targets, was quite popular and have made that the focus of the new game.<\/p>\n<p>I also like the implications of new contracts being made available for a short time and I am intrigued to see how the online competitive aspect works. It&#8217;s looking really good to me!<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption\" style=\"width: 650px;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3q4Ae1vqyJ0?rel=0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>I like to think I&#8217;ll be the clever one creating &#8220;accidents&#8221; but I&#8217;ll probably be the one hacking the target to bits with a fire axe in front of all those people.<\/div>\n<h2>Uncharted 4: A Thief&#8217;s End<\/h2>\n<p>I love me some Uncharted, the game series where you&#8217;re dumped into an all-out action movie into the shoes of a John McClane &#8220;everyman&#8221; hero<sup class='footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.payneful.co.uk\/blogsplosion\/2015\/06\/20\/random-guesswork-e3-2015\/#fn-2739-4' id='fnref-2739-4' onclick='return fdfootnote_show(2739)'>4<\/a><\/sup>. The Uncharted games have always looked and played great, and I&#8217;m just glad to see that the fact the <em>The Last of Us&#8217;<\/em> creative team haven&#8217;t made the new game all grim and gritty off the back of their previous game<sup class='footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.payneful.co.uk\/blogsplosion\/2015\/06\/20\/random-guesswork-e3-2015\/#fn-2739-5' id='fnref-2739-5' onclick='return fdfootnote_show(2739)'>5<\/a><\/sup> like <a title=\"In the grim darkness of the present, there is only Drake.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=y1Rx-Bbht5E\" target=\"_blank\">the first teaser trailer implied it would be<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The new gameplay trailer won me over by including my favourite character Sully, who&#8217;s moving around really well for a guy his age! The combat looks fun and there&#8217;s more of an emphasis on the vertical combat that you usually get in the multiplayer segments (i.e. climbing up things to get a new vantage point). Speaking of which, <a title=\"Unfortunately the PS3 video capture was always a little low-res. PS4 doesn't have that problem!\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5yDoszpEMIw&amp;list=PLDE68C12DA0731E79\" target=\"_blank\">having enjoyed Uncharted multiplayer for many years<\/a> I can&#8217;t wait to get the band back together for some sessions on UC4<sup class='footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.payneful.co.uk\/blogsplosion\/2015\/06\/20\/random-guesswork-e3-2015\/#fn-2739-6' id='fnref-2739-6' onclick='return fdfootnote_show(2739)'>6<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>I also understand that the excellent company Bluepoint games has been appointed to bring the Uncharted trilogy to PS4 with new trophies and nicer graphics. They did an excellent job with the <em>God of War<\/em>, <em>Ico\/Shadow of the Colossus<\/em> and <em>Metal Gear Solid HD<\/em> collections, so I will certainly be buying the Uncharted collection when it comes out.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption\" style=\"width: 650px;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zL46dpNEPPA?rel=0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>I&#8217;m even looking forward to the car driving segments, and they are usually <em>the worst part<\/em>.<\/div>\n<h2>The Last Guardian<\/h2>\n<p>Once upon a time, the team behind Ico and Shadow of the Colossus announced a game that was a cross between the two &#8211; a puzzle game where your character was accompanied by a massive creature who could help you solve problems you encounter. It disappeared into development hell for the longest time (apparently it&#8217;s really difficult to code a giant creature that acts intelligently without bugging out).<\/p>\n<p>Beyond that, nobody knows anything. Sony have announced that it will be coming to the PS4 though, so I reckon that&#8217;s one to look out for. <a title=\"Game Guides for Non-Gamers: Shadow of the Colossus\" href=\"http:\/\/www.payneful.co.uk\/blogsplosion\/2014\/12\/07\/game-guides-for-non-gamers-shadow-of-the-colossus\/\">It will be nice to see a colossus that doesn&#8217;t want to smash you to bits for a change<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption\" style=\"width: 650px;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zXLZvsSmBIs?rel=0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>The creature is a cow..dog&#8230;chicken? A codocken?<\/div>\n<h2>Fallout 4<\/h2>\n<p>I&#8217;ve always been a big fan of the modern Fallout games<sup class='footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.payneful.co.uk\/blogsplosion\/2015\/06\/20\/random-guesswork-e3-2015\/#fn-2739-7' id='fnref-2739-7' onclick='return fdfootnote_show(2739)'>7<\/a><\/sup>, especially in the way <a title=\"Nobody messes with MAX VALERION!\" href=\"http:\/\/www.payneful.co.uk\/blogsplosion\/tag\/max-valerion\/\">you can be a complete bastard in them<\/a>. The new edition looks beautiful. Here&#8217;s hoping that they have ironed out the uncanny valley expressions and that running at 45 degrees no longer looks weird. I am a little worried about the main character being voice acted &#8211; here&#8217;s hoping for a voice pitch slider so I can make him sound at least a little bit nasal. Other than minor gripes, it looks great &#8211; the customisation, the setting, even the ridiculous Pip-Boy accessory that you better believe I&#8217;m going to buy. Fingers crossed that you still get to be a complete bastard in it!<\/p>\n<p>Geek note: the salesman at the door in the gameplay demo was voiced by <a title=\"I wonder if he ever got those scissors.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6lL4HRva1bs\" target=\"_blank\">Metal Gear&#8217;s Colonel himself, Paul Eiding<\/a>. I squeed.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption\" style=\"width: 650px;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/i7QK_yEgsV0?rel=0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>For 200 years to pass and the guy to look the same, either he&#8217;s a descendant or Vault 111&#8217;s one little quirk is that they are experimenting with cryogenic freezing.<\/div>\n<h2>Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain<\/h2>\n<p>Yes, yes, and YES. It looks like Hideo Kojima<sup class='footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.payneful.co.uk\/blogsplosion\/2015\/06\/20\/random-guesswork-e3-2015\/#fn-2739-8' id='fnref-2739-8' onclick='return fdfootnote_show(2739)'>8<\/a><\/sup> and his team have taken all the things he played with in <em>MGS: Peace Walker<\/em> (fulton recovery, smaller missions, recruiting an army) and has expanded them into one cohesive world that looks amazing. I can already see myself spending entire evenings and weekends traversing all the places, collecting all the things and doing the side missions. Typically all details concerning the plot have been kept under wraps so I am chomping at the bit to find out more about what happened to Big Boss following <em>MGS V: Ground Zeroes<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption\" style=\"width: 650px;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gtgNUFSoHv8?rel=0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>D-walker looks ridiculous, although I already know I&#8217;ll be speeding around the battlefield, upper-cutting unsuspecting victims in the back of the head for lolz.<\/div>\n<h2>LEGO Dimensions<\/h2>\n<p>Oh dear.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve managed to so far not at all be interested in <em>Skylanders<\/em>, and I have just about managed to hold back from buying anything to do with <em>Disney Infinity<\/em> despite some of the figures looking really cool but&#8230;well, you might already know that <a title=\"No, really? It's not like the last several blog posts I made were all fecking pictures of LEGO I've bought or anything.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.payneful.co.uk\/blogsplosion\/category\/manchild-at-play-toys\/lego\/\" target=\"_blank\">I have a thing for LEGO<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And <em>holy shit you can play as <\/em><a title=\"Manchild at Play: Back to the Future LEGO\" href=\"http:\/\/www.payneful.co.uk\/blogsplosion\/2013\/08\/15\/manchild-at-play-back-to-the-future-lego\/\">Back to the Future<\/a><em> meets <\/em>Portal<em> meets <\/em><a title=\"BATMAAAAN\" href=\"http:\/\/www.payneful.co.uk\/blogsplosion\/category\/characters\/batman\/\">Batman<\/a><em> meets <\/em>Scooby Doo<em> meets <\/em>Doctor Who<em> and there&#8217;s minifigs and sets to buy and it looks like it&#8217;s a fanfiction come true<\/em>. My only concern is having neither the money or the physical storage space to indulge in this wonderful, wonderful thing that is coming soon.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption\" style=\"width: 650px;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1OKG0kyam14?rel=0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>Why couldn&#8217;t this have been a thing when I was 5? Why can&#8217;t I be 5 again?<\/div>\n<h2>Mad Max<\/h2>\n<p>The video game is currently coming under scrutiny since the awesome film <em>Fury Road<\/em> came out recently, and it looks like it will be a very different beast to the Tom Hardy grunt-athon that was on the silver screen in a good way<sup class='footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.payneful.co.uk\/blogsplosion\/2015\/06\/20\/random-guesswork-e3-2015\/#fn-2739-9' id='fnref-2739-9' onclick='return fdfootnote_show(2739)'>9<\/a><\/sup>. Somewhere between <em>Grand Theft Auto<\/em>, the Batman games and Uncharted, the game is looking great. My only concern is that it might get lost amongst all the other great games that are coming out.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption\" style=\"width: 650px;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/p7uWr1bJvw0?rel=0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>At least he&#8217;ll be a bit more talkative than Tom Hardy and won&#8217;t have to wear a gardening trowel on his face.<\/div>\n<h2>Shenmue 3<\/h2>\n<p>I was given a copy of Shenmue along with a Dreamcast by a friend on a birthday many years ago. I&#8217;ll admit now that I didn&#8217;t get very far with it; I remember checking my watch a lot as there was a button devoted to checking your wrist and I kept pressing it by accident. As far as I can tell the original games were mostly about <a title=\"Huh. Maybe it loses something in translation and is a cultural thing?\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Fe8ME__lWk0\" target=\"_blank\">looking for sailors in seedy bars<\/a> and <a title=\"Sure, that seems reasonable and not irresponsible at all!\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lnqHdwkngjU\" target=\"_blank\">racing forklift trucks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement for this long-awaited sequel went down a storm but I can&#8217;t help but feel the whole thing about Sony using the Kickstarter to gauge interest being just a little bit seedy. Isn&#8217;t this just a collection for pre-orders, basically?<\/p>\n<p>We all know what&#8217;s going to happen in the third instalment, anyway. <a title=\"It's going to be sweet!\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Ar0KojxIvmQ\" target=\"_blank\">Mega64 got that out of the creator in a video they did<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption\" style=\"width: 650px;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZNt_Pc6IdMc?rel=0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>I loved Deadly Premonition&#8217;s fully-realised world so I&#8217;m hoping for a Shenmue and Shenmue 2 HD re-release at some point as I understand they are also fully-programmed worlds.<\/div>\n<h2>Assassin&#8217;s Creed: Syndicate<\/h2>\n<p>I fell out of love with the AC series around the fourth instalment of <em>Brotherhood<\/em>, Part 2 Act 3, which just goes to show how much of a mess the story is now. I tried the sixth instalment (Part 3) and found it an absolute chore, being a series of fairly boring fetch quests much like the previous games. The latest instalment has piqued my interest just through the virtue of being set in Victorian London, but I will be holding off buying until I see some gameplay videos after it&#8217;s release. Never mind once bitten, twice shy &#8211; this is several times bitten and very wary!<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption\" style=\"width: 650px;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hKR42Ci000k?rel=0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>I&#8217;ll be honest right now: this all looks like the exact same shit you do in all the other AC games. Not promising.<\/div>\n<h2>That was it.<\/h2>\n<p>There weren&#8217;t really any other game announcements worth noting. Oh wait, there was one&#8230;what was it called again?<\/p>\n<h2>Final Fantasy VII: Remake<\/h2>\n<p><em>HOLY F*CKING SHIT.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I saw it, and said &#8220;no way&#8221; ten times over the trailer, with the occasional &#8220;they said they would never do it&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>I know it&#8217;s far too early to really get excited. I know you shouldn&#8217;t judge a game based on a pre-rendered trailer. I know this is probably a blatant cash-grab from Square-Enix. I know they could mess this up horribly. I know they can&#8217;t possibly translate every tiny detail into the remake from the original. I know all these things, because a very long time ago <a title=\"Do We Need Another FFVII?\" href=\"http:\/\/www.payneful.co.uk\/blogsplosion\/2007\/12\/01\/do-we-need-another-ffvii\/\">I wrote down all the reasons why we don&#8217;t need another Final Fantasy VII<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But <em>I don&#8217;t care<\/em>. This is probably the most excited I have been about a video game announcement in many, many years and I&#8217;m just going to sit back and revel in the nostalgia of what that&#8217;s like.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-caption\" style=\"width: 650px;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Kznek1uNVsg?rel=0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>I&#8217;ll be honest right now: this all looks like the exact same shit you do in all the other Final Fantasy games. Not promising. ;p<\/div>\n<h2>That&#8217;s really it.<\/h2>\n<p>Those are my cherry-picked showings from E3, I may come back and edit this when I inevitably remember a game I forgot about.
