I was leaving the flat the other day and, amongst the assorted mail for various apartments, a colour catalogue caught my eye. This was because it was a catalogue of LEGO. Strange for it to turn up in the mail, and I made the decision that if it hadn’t been claimed by anyone else living in the building I would get my grubby paws on it and have a good long read.<\/p>\n

It was still there three hours later, so I grabbed it with glee and hurried it into the flat. This was when my other half pointed out that the catalogue was mine anyway – my name and address were on the back! This was particularly annoying as there had been difficulties getting actual LEGO delivered to my address correctly<\/a>, and yet they could send me their promotional catalogue with no problems!<\/p>\n

Regardless, it worked. There is something to be said for receiving a glossy catalogue of things you can buy. The thing is, although the detective’s office was a one-off purchase, in the back of my mind I had always wanted to get something to go with it. The sets are modular, which means they can connect together however you like. It didn’t take much to decide that an old-style cinema would look great next to to street featuring the detective’s office.<\/p>\n

I had the set delivered to my parents’ house this time, and the set only took three days to put together with the help from my other half. There really are some ingenious little tricks used in this set – LEGO is usually built at 90 degree angles and this set, being a street corner, has some really cool solutions to building at 45 degree angles.<\/p>\n

The images from the build are below, click them to see a full size version. There aren’t as many as usual – I was having too much fun putting the thing together to stop and take a photo every ten minutes!<\/p>\n
